In Zambia, if carefully implemented, open contracting poses many benefits to various actors. For government, publishing public contracting information helps them to show the public that they are doing the right thing as most suspicion comes in when such information is labelled as confidential especially when scandals involving public procurement arise. For SMEs it can help them to be more competitive by having more access to information and being informed about outcome of tenders and giving them an opportunity to make queries. For civil society it gives them information to make informed checks and balances on how government is spending public funds. Donors are also able to see how funds are being utilized when government is making purchases and can help to address some audit queries on donor funds.
